Debbie Beaumont Yoga Teacher in BecclesAfter studying anatomy and body massage at college, I qualified as a massage therapist in 1997, since adding Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Reiki therapies. I’ve been working as a therapist for 15 years.

I’ve been practising yoga since 1995 and teaching since 2007. I started attending a weekly yoga class in 1996 after recovering from a car accident, where I suffered whiplash and other injuries and required surgery. I was very much in need of getting back in touch with myself and easing my body and mind from the trauma. I found yoga a wonderful way forward, releasing both physical and mental tension, in a supportive environment. It brought peace and balance back into my life.

My interest in yoga grew, so in 2002 when I had the opportunity to go on a yoga retreat, with Jan Lacey, with the encouragement of my then (and present) teacher Jenny Newman, I did. Returning from the retreat with even more enthusiasm for yoga, I enrolled on a British Wheel of Yoga foundation course, mainly for interest, and to further my personal knowledge. It was from this point I thought more and more of sharing what benefits I found yoga had to offer. It wasn’t a conscious thought of ‘I wanted to become a yoga teacher’; it kind of found me. So I took the plunge and enrolled on the 3 year British Wheel of Yoga Teaching diploma course, with the tutor Vonnie Bloom.

I have also had additional training and qualified to teach a specialised 12 week course Yoga For Healthy Lower Backs. A specialised 12 week course, beginner friendly, evidence based research, Arthritis UK , University of York research. I’m currently running 2 courses a year. April and September. Book well in advance as small group numbers.

I have found something very special in yoga. I cannot imagine not having yoga in my life. I encourage everyone to explore the many benefits it has to offer, keeping the mind and body in an optimal state of health and wellbeing.
